We Stop Writing Shit When we Stop Giving a

We begin writing with selfish motivations. We want to tell our story, we want people to read the thoughts we hold dear, we want people to praise our book (and us), etc. Nothing wrong with all that per se, but motivation can only give us an impulse. Motivation can’t write a good story.

Storygrid – and other methodologies – erodes selfish motivations. These tools draw us out of self-gratification. They make us focus on reader value – the key to success.

As we revisit the principles of professional storytelling, we replace, one by one, the selfish with reader value. The longer we massage our story with the oil of good storytelling principles, the less we care. The day comes when we reach a breaking point. We don’t give a shit anymore. Bingo! We reached the threshold to excellence.
